Currently...

Listening....Slip Sliding Away - not exactly pump up music for a Thursday
Eating....nothing, but I just finished up a strawberry greek yogurt
Drinking...nothing, but I just finished up some lemon verbena green tea
Reading...The Salt God's Daughter by Ilie Ruby. I haven't really started it yet, but it looks good.
Wearing...black turtleneck and leggings, cowboy boots and a lilly shift dress (it was a gift before you get to haughty about it I'm not normally a huge fan of printed pants and stuff)
Feeling...excited! I got some more details about my new job and I'm getting stuff set up for my home office.
Weather...cold and windy. There's supposed to be lots of ice tonight. A day at home tomorrow would be wonderful weather gods.
Needing...some caffeine. I'm sleepy.
Wanting...the week to hurry up. I am done with work on Monday and am getting a facial on Wednesday.
Thinking...that I'd like to make a fun lampshade out of paint chips or wax paper or something.
Enjoying...not really having anything to do at work. Short timing is awesome!

Confessions

-I haven't combed my hair all week.  It's been really static-y and every time I brush it the static just gets even worse.  Even Static Guard doesn't help.  I've been wearing it up for most of the week, but still, I'm scared to finally brush it.

-I think I need an intervention with Craigslist.  I've been purchasing a ton of random things off of there.  In the past few weeks alone I've purchased or tried to purchase the following:  2 Queen Anne chairs, the Morticia Addams chair I posted about earlier, a rain barrel and 3 chickens.  There's just so much good stuff for cheap.  The rain barrel was actually free!

-I really thought Beyonce sang the national anthem.  It seemed so real.  The ear piece getting ripped out.  The hand motions.  What's going on Beyonce????

She still looked amazing though.

-I've been working out in the mornings and in the evenings, but not losing any weight because I've been eating like a crazy woman. Yesterday when I came home KB wasn't there and I ate some leftover fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and a biscuit.....then ate again when KB got home. I'm ravenously hungry all the time now, but I'm sure eating fried chicken hand over fist isn't really helping me.

-My biggest confession of all is that I've been keeping a secret from you guys. I got a new job! Starting week after next I'll be working from home for a new company, but will still be doing basically what my job is now. I'm excited to be at home with the puppies during the day now. Maybe they'll actually get this whole potty training thing down pat....I'm looking at you Pancho.

Now go link up with Mrs. Bear and confess away!

Girls Make Passes at Guys in Glasses

Or I do now!

The lovely folks at Firmoo offered me a pair of glasses to review and I gladly took them up on their offer.  Being my perfect self I don't wear glasses, but KB is pretty unlucky in the eye department.  He is supposed to wear contacts, but doesn't want to forgets to wear them.  They say they hurt his eyes and it's just not work wearing them.  His insurance company doesn't cover glasses, only contacts, so he's been putting off getting glasses for a while.

Since he wasn't moving on getting them, I thought I'd take care of it.  Luckily for me Firmoo offers a thingy where you can upload your own photo to see what they would look like on your face.  I uploaded KB's photo and decided on these....

Sorry...fun photo of them on KB's computer face not included.

Once I figured out what I wanted the checkout process was also really easy.  I've never had glasses before so I don't really know what all of the numbers mean.  Once I realized that I would actually have to use KB's numbers and not just type in some random stuff, the FAQ section was really helpful.  I called KB's eye doctor's office and after what I'm sure is at least a few HIPAA violations I had KB's prescription.

The glasses got here a few days later and voila!

In action!

They came with a good hard case, a cleaning cloth and some extra screws.

Rawr!  This girl will definitely be making passes at this guy in glasses.

You can get a fun pair of glasses too!  Firmoo is introducing a First Pair Free Program.  You can get your own glasses for free and just pay shipping.  There are tons of fun styles and they are updated pretty frequently.

You can hook your own man up with some fun glasses.

Menu Monday

Here's the rundown of what we'll be eating this week...

Mon: Big Huge Salad

There's no picture for this one.  It's just a big salad from all of the random vegetables and toppings I can find in the fridge.

I really like meatloaf, but KB is not a big fan at all. He does really like buffalo flavored things, so hopefully this can sway him. I'm actually really excited about this meal. Recently all I've wanted is buffalo flavored things.

Wed: Hot Ham Dips

I love hot sandwiches like this and Mo'Betta is an awesome cook - so I know this will be good! I'll probably be serving this with some greens since we have a ton of them still.

Thurs: Breakfast Pizza

Recently besides only wanting buffalo flavored things I also really have been wanting an egg McMuffin. I haven't had an egg McMuffin in years. This kinda reminds me of an egg McMuffin but in pizza form. I also saw in the comments where you could use crescent rolls for the dough.

What goodies will you be eating this week???

Hello my pretty....

I'll be getting this little pretty today...

I'm not sure how I'm going to redo it.  Maybe something like this...

Or leave it natural like this...

Whatever I do with it, KB is convinced that this is what it'll look like...

Maybe that can be our Christmas card next year.

Currently...

Ala The Perks here's what I'm up to currently...

Listening....to the air conditioning unit in my office.  Why is the air conditioning on?  It's 40 degrees and raining.
Eating.....nothing yet, but I'm getting ready to get up with some plain Greek yogurt and blackberries.  So delicious.
Drinking....some Seagram's key lime sparkling water. Also so delicious.
Reading....some work stuff.  Exciting things are happening!
Wearing....a brown eyelet dress, turquoise sweater, brown tights, cowboy boots and turquoise necklace.
Feeling....pretty pumped.  There's some big changes ahead for the Browns  (and no it's not babies)
Weather....Rainy, cold, windy, gross.  It's been that way for 2 days already and will be that way until Friday.
Needing....to do some Netflix workout DVDs. I've had them for a while and need to send them back.
Wanting...a nice sunny and warm vacation.  Sadly that might not happen this year.
Thinking....about what type of chickens we are going to get and what I want to plant in my garden and yard this spring.
Enjoying....Tazo Zen green tea.  It's so lemony and fresh.

Menu Monday

Here's what we'll be eating on this week:

Mon: Avocado and Romaine Salad

We're really loading up on the avocados this week (yay for me not so much for KB). I've heard that the dressing on this salad is really good, so hopefully I can recreate it. I'm still going strong on the weekly salad train and so far it's been really easy. I just wash and prep everything on Monday and then normally have enough left over to have salads for lunch most of the week.

I love soups and minestrone is one of my favorites.  It's supposed to be rainy and cold here all week, so this soup will just hit the spot.  I couldn't find any squash at my local Aldi (it's always luck of the draw there) so I'm going to throw in some sweet potatoes to beef it up a little bit.  I'm also going to add in some rice instead of pasta.  I thought I had a random box of something in my pantry, but when I got home it had magically disappeared.

Wed: Mexican Cauliflower Rice Bowl

This looks really interesting, but I'm not really sure how it's going to turn out. I love the Qdoba rice bowls, so I'm hoping it tastes a little something like that. I've heard of substituting cauliflower for rice before, but I've never actually done it.

Thurs: Turkey, Avocado and Hummus Wrap

I love all of these things, so this will definitely be a win for me. KB is not a huge fan of avocado, but hopefully if I can combine it with the hummus enough he won't even know it. We'll see.

What will you be eating this week???

It's Okay Thursday

It's okay to......

- fall asleep on the count at 8:30 and completely miss all of your TV shows.  That's what the DVR is for.

-get really excited about paint colors, but put off actually painting for a few weeks (it will get done this weekend though).

-eat a bunch of your birthday cake the day after your birthday. KB made it so I had to eat it.

-go to work hungover the day after your birthday.  26 is not that far from 21, right?

-listen to the same song over and over again.  I'm looking at you Justin Bieber.

-wear the same pair of leggings for 2 days in a row (including sleeping in them).

-try to make black bean burgers and not really read the recipe.  They failed miserably.

-not read all the info on the Pottery Barn website.  I have monogrammed pillow cases coming out the ass.  Who knew there would be 2 in a package?  Ummmm pretty much everyone.....but me.

Happy BDay to Me

Happy 26th BDay to meeeeee

I'll be imbibing lots of fun beverages and wearing fun clothes.

Menu Monday

It's a normal week - yay!  I hate the limbo between Christmas and New Year's.  It's weird.  I still have to work and the rest of the world doesn't.  There's stuff all over my house.  We end up eating chips and salsa for dinner.  It's generally just a weird time for everyone.

Here's what we'll be eating this week:

Mon: Sweet Tuna Salad

I'm still on the salad kick. This recipe looks really similar to my regular tuna salad recipe, but I'm going to add in lots of nuts and dried fruit to give it some sweetness and tang. We'll be having this on lots of lettuce and veggies.

Tues: It's my BDay!

I will be giving myself the present of not cooking on my bday and having lots of alcoholic beverages and snacks that someone else has made.

Wed: Spicy Black Bean Burgers and Chips

KB actually really likes black bean burgers, so it's one of the few times that I can pull a fast one on him and make him not even realize that meat is missing. I've made something similar to these before and they were really good. I'm going to leave off the chipotle mayo because I'm not a huge mayo fan.

Thurs: Baked Macaroni with Tomato Sauce and Goat Cheese

Whole wheat pasta was on sale this week, so I thought I'd add in some pasta-y goodness to our menu. I'm going to be subbing in some turnip greens instead of kale because I just froze a bunch, but other than that I'm going to stick to this recipe. It looks delish!

Bonus Time!

I'm also still on my smoothie kick. I've been eating them for breakfast after I workout and I love them. They keep me full and are really convenient for when I'm getting ready in the morning.

Apple Cinnamon Banana Smoothie

Cake Batter Protein Shake

What will you be eating this week???

Randoms

I've been doing lots of fun projects around the house, but I'm too lazy right now to take pictures of them. Updates coming soon with lots of ginger jars (who knew Goodwill was the best source around for ginger jars), really masculine paint colors, a big framed deer painting and much more.

So what if I've watched Pretty Woman two nights in a row. KB has been gone dealing with dramaz and it's a cute movie. Also, hello Richard Gere? I know you are old, but you look real good in that suit and I love me some Wall Street types. Just about nothin' is better than powerful men that know how to handle money and wear suits almost everyday. Rawr.

Something in our master bathroom is leaking into our laundry room ceiling.  There is a huge wet spot and we're probably going to have to rip out some drywall once we see what's leaking.  Of course KB isn't here to deal with it.  He just told me to shut the toilet off and he'd deal with it later.  Awesome.

I've been ramping it up on the treadmill recently.  I did an interval workout earlier today that was an hour and a half long.  It really wasn't that bad.  It looked terrible on paper and I thought I would give up pretty early on, but I stuck with it and it ended up going by really fast.

This show....let's discuss.

I love me some rednecks.  I married into a family that has a bunch of them (luckily KB is only a part time redneck when convenient).  I watched the first two episodes yesterday and they were hilarious.  It's super staged and you can tell that most of these kids have got some money from somewhere because of the sheer amount of 4 Wheelers and pick ups, but I really like it.  It's sort of like hanging out with my brother in law and his redneck friends over the summer - it's fun while you're doing it, but you're pretty glad you're not like that all the time.  One of the funniest people on there is Shain.  It goes without saying that my redneck brother in law shares the name, the weird stache, the accent where sometimes you need subtitles and the constant dip in the mouth.

We're  I'm in the process of choosing paint colors for our house.  Whyyyy is this so hardddd?  I got some samples today and painted a little bit, but it's so hard to figure out how it's going to look on a major scale.   I'm going for a dark green exterior, with an antique white trim and dark brown porch.  That's way harder to find than it sounds.

On Second Thought

After posting about my original New Year's goals and seeing every one else's goals, I came up with a couple more. So far so good on working out in the morning (I seriously feel amazing pretty much all day), so hopefully I can make these stick too.

Eat at least one salad per week.

On Monday I made a huge salad for dinner and it was amazing. I also had enough leftover to have salads for lunch most of the week. I want to try to branch out my salads and get some crazy ones in there. I just never really think about salad as a dinner food, but when you load it up with all kinds of good stuff it's really filling. I've been browsing around Pinterest for a while. These look particularly delicious:

Clean everyday.

Right now I don't really clean during the week besides the regular "put something back after you are done with it". I save up all of my cleaning for the weekends, but then sometimes it feels like I waste a whole Saturday with just cleaning. I need to get better about cleaning a little bit everyday. I've seen a bunch of cleaning "schedules" around, but I'm not sure I could stick with them. I need to just do it!

Drink/make more smoothies.

After working out yesterday morning for the first time I really wanted a smoothie. I was really hot and eating regular food didn't really sound good to me. I made one up with some frozen strawberries, regular oatmeal, milk and greek yogurt. It was amazing! I want to try to expand my smoothie aresenal for breakfast. These also look especially delicious:

Any extra resolutions on your part? I'm hoping I can stick to at least a few of these.

Auld Lang Syne

2012 was a pretty good year I guess.  We bought our house.  We moved in.  We did lots of work.   2013 will probably be pretty similar.

I try not to make resolutions because I don't ever keep them, but more like goals.

This year my goals are:

Work out in the mornings.  I just bought this bad boy yesterday so hopefully that will motivate me.  I'm planning on getting up 30 minutes earlier every day to use it.

Stop spending so much money.  To most people I'm a really frugal person, but I think I spend too much money on useless things that I don't necessarily need.  I've been taking lots of stuff to the Goodwill recently and every time I take a load I stop in to see what I can find.  I've gotten all kinds of "new" clothes and things for the house and what not, but over long term that stuff adds up.  My goal is to try to spend no more than $50 per month on random things that we don't need (clothes, house stuff, coffee, etc).

Take my dogs for more walks.  When the weather is nice and it's not dark when we get home I almost always take the dogs for a walk.  Those days only comprise about 1 month out of the year though.  When it gets too hot Rosa can't walk because she gets overheated, when it gets too cold Pancho can't walk because he gets too cold, and when it's winter they can't walk because it's dark when we get home.  I'm going to make more of an effort to take them out in the mornings and on the weekends in the winter.  Rosie is getting quite a little pudge that needs to be worked off!

Hopefully I can keep these up!
